Jayapura (Antara Bali) - The separatist Free Papua Movement Organization (OPM) which is led by Jhon Yogi is believed to have some 20 firearms of various types, police said.

"Some of the firearms were stolen from security officers," Paniai Resort Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Anthon Diantje said here on Wednesday.

The number of the separatist group's firearms increased after its members shot dead Brigadier Yohan Kasimatau on Tuesday and took away his V2 type firearm, he said.

Anthon said besides the firearms, the group was also believed to have enough ammunition which enabled its members to involve in an exchange of fires with security officers for hours.

When it involved in the exchange of fires on Tuesday, the group was able to resist for almost four hours from 2 pm until 5 pm local time.

Brigadier Yohan Kasimatau was shot dead by the rebels when he was washing a police car at the end of an airstrip at 10.30 am local time on Tuesday. His V2 firearm was stolen before the separatists fled with a speed boat.(IGT)
