State electricity company PT PLN distributed electric motorcycle carts to bolster the productivity of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and promote electric vehicles in Indonesia.
"We have prepared 77 electric motorcycle carts valued at Rp5 billion (around US$350 thousand) to assist MSEs in increasing their productivity, as they are the frontline in post-pandemic economic recovery," PLN President Director Zulkifli Zaini stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The company had distributed the first 11 motorcycle carts, valued at Rp751 million (around US$52.7 thousand) to 11 MSEs in Bali on Monday (Oct 25).
Zaini is optimistic that the electric motorcycle carts, procured under the company's ECSR programme, would promote battery-powered electric vehicles as a clean alternative transportation mode and attract more users to use electric vehicles.

General Manager of the PLN Distribution Unit in Bali I Wayan Udayana stated that the program is aimed at assisting MSEs in Bali to increase their profits by providing clean vehicles that enable them to expand their market reach.
"We hope that the distribution of electric motorcycle carts would support MSEs and promote the green transportation mode among members of the public," Udayana stated.
Meanwhile, Made Liyadi, the owner of Ma'ira enterprise that produces meat floss and chips in northern Bali's district of Buleleng, was pleased to receive the electric motorcycle cart.
"Our market reach will expand, as we could utilize the electric motorcycle cart to promote our product," Liyadi stated.
Apart from Ma'ira, 10 other MSEs -- all enterprises in the food and beverage sector -- from other Bali districts also received the electric carts.
"We usually peddle our products by foot, and we are confident that the electric cart would increase the productivity of our enterprise and make it more popular in public," Liyadi stated.
