Bogor (Antara Bali) - The Tempe (fermented soybean cake) and Tofu producers in Bogor, West Java, have threatened to initiate a three day strike  from July 25 to July 27 to protest against increasing prices of soybean in Indonesia.

Maulifi, (35) a Tempe producer, on Tuesday said he could manage to make only three quintals of the soybean cake before the strike was announced  and  this was his last batch of Tempe to be sold on Wednesday night at Merdeka market,  Maulifi said.

Maulifi and other producers are facing severe difficulties due to the soaring prices of soybean rising to Rp 8.000 per kilogram, leaving a marginal profit for them.

"The strike is our solidarity action to press the government to cut down the soybean prices," Maulifi said.

The strike has been initiated by the producers as an appeal made by the Indonesian Premier Economic Enterprise for Tempe and Tofu Producers (Primkopti) in Bagor to organize the strike.

Primkopti called a three day strike and reminded all producers to carefully notice the circular to avoid undesirable actions during the strike period.(IGT/T007)
