Jakarta (Antara Bali) - State owned airline PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines said it has succeeded in pressing down operating loss over the past six months.
"The airline still posted loss but the loss is now only Rp35 billion remaining from Rp50 billion in May," its finance director Muhammad Roem said here on Friday.
Roem attributed the improvement in performance to peak season and school holidays, saying the load factor rose to 83 percent from 70 percent earlier.
The company hopes to see further improvement in financial performance for the rest of the year, with peak season until December, he said.
The number of people traveling by air is also expected to increase ahead and during Idul Fitri in this predominantly Muslim country
Roem said the airline has not taken steps toward efficiency especially in the use of fuel in order to cut cost.(IGT/T007)
