Mataram (Antara Bali) - An undersea power line from Lombok Island to three tourist reefs Trawangan, Meno and Air, North Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), under construction since early 2011, has been suspended at the request of the provincial administration.
"The suspension is aimed for coordination with the marine conservation area," Head of the NTB Mining and Energy Agency Eko Bambang Sutedjo said here Thursday.
He said the suspension of the mega project was prompted as certain circles as the National Conservation Hall covered by the three reefs.
The activities in the national conservation area is restricted by regulations, so that state power company PT PLN which is building the mega project also has to follow the prevailing regulations. "PLN needs to secure a permission before starting the conservation project," Eko said.
Earlier, General Manager of PT PLN for NTB Akbar Ali said PLN planned to provide a 10 MW power generator for the project for operation under the sea to the Trawangan, Air and Meno Reefs, and for the time being the power needs in the three reefs reached six megawatts.
He said he would need Rp20 billion to build the mega project which will flow 10 MW of electricity in a distance of three kilometers.(*/M038)
