Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The letter of clemency for Schapelle Leigh Corby has already arrived at the Kerobokan detention centre in Badung district, Bali province, according to the head of the detention centre, Gusti Ngurah Wiratna.
"I am still in Jakarta right now; on Friday (May 25), I'll be returning home. The letter of clemency for Corby has already arrived at the Kerobokan detention centre," Wiratna stated over the phone on Wednesday.
He was certain that his staff would not dare to open the letter when he was away from office.
Wiratna, however, was informed by the Bali provincial legal and human rights office about the clemency granted to the Australian beauty queen who, on May 27, 2005, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for an illicit drug smuggling attempt.
"The provincial legal and human rights office asked me to present the letter to Corby directly," Wiratna remarked, adding that he would do so immediately upon his return in Bali.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reduced Corby's sentence by five years in the letter of clemency that he signed on May 15, 2012.(IGT/T007/DWA)
