Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali's prison has proposed remission for 317 of its inmates on the occasion of Indonesian Independence Day of August 17, 2011, an official said.
Denpasar jail chief warden said here on Sunday the institution has a proposed a remission for 317 inmates, but it is up to the relevant authorities including the Law and Human Rights Minister.
Their names may be announced on August 14 and 15, 2011 after the Law and Human Rights Minister's issued a green light.
To meet the requirements for a remission an inmate needs to have spent more than six months in jail as of February 18, 2011.
"Those who will be granted a remission are those with good behavior while in jail," he said.
Besides the a remission on Independence Day, remissions were also planned on occasion of the upcoming Idul Fitri post-fasting festivities.
A remission is one way of the jails in the country to reduce the number of their inmates.
The Denpasar jail is currently holding more than 1.100 inmates while their capacity is only 323.(*/T007)
