Medan (Antara Bali) - The state-run oil and gas company PT Pertamina has not yet raised the selling price of LPG, so the company will impose sanctions on any LGP agent or distributor who raises the retail price, a company official said.
"Pertamina is currently clamping down on the sales of LPG at the distributor level following reports of LPG retail prices increasing to Rp2,000 per three-kilogram cylinder, as well as the 12 kilogram cylinder," Pertamina regional-I assistant customer relations official Sonny Mirath said here on Saturday.
Sonny admitted that the demand on LPG continues to increase in line with the completion of conversion programs from the use of kerosene to LPG, mainly for cooking in 27 districts and towns in North Sumatra province.
Recently, the LPG retail price for a three-kilogram cylinder ranged from Rp16,000 to Rp17,000, as opposed to the normal price of Rp14,000-Rp15,000. Meanwhile, the 12 kilogram cylinder is Rp75,000 to Rp77,000, against the normal Rp72,000-Rp73,000.
The LPG supply for North Sumatra has reached 1,100 metric tons daily.
According to Sonny, there is no reason for the LPG distributors or agents to raise the retail gas price because the LPG supply is adequate and transportation costs have not increased.(*/T007)
