Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A $468 billion economic master plan for Indonesia must be backed by a land reform agenda, a senior official said on Wednesday.
"The government should support the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Growth" (MP3EI) with a land reform agenda, so achieving welfare goals becomes feasible," said Sabang-Merauke Circle (SMC) executive director Syahganda Nainggolan.
Launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in May 2011, the Rp4,000 trillion ($468 billion) economic master plan programme for the period 2011 to 2025, includes nation-wide Internet broadband access, hydro-power and solar power plants, a modern steel mill, a palm oil industry zone, access roads, toll roads, airports, dams, reservoirs, as well as nickel, cobalt and aluminum facilities throughout the four economic corridors of Sumatra, Java, West Nusa Tenggara - Bali and Maluku - Papua.
Nainggolan said this following a forum on "MP3EI, the issue of land procurement and people's welfare" which was organised by SMC on Wednesday.
The SMC executive director noted that the land reform programme was launched by the president in the beginning of 2007, but nothing has materialized to date.(IGT)
