Denpasar (Antara Bali) - A Greek citizen, Nikolaos Bouikidis (36) , on trial in the Denpasar District Court for  smuggling in 4.202 kilograms of methamphetamine into Bali, on Wednesday heard the prosecution's indictment which suggested he could get the death penalty.

Public Prosecutor I Ketut Sujaya said in his charge sheet the defendant's act in trying to  import prohibited goods was a violation of Article 113 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics.

"The defendant unlawfully possessed, held, controlled or intended to provide Category I non-plant narcotics in the form of 4.202 kilograms of methamphetamine, a criminal act  carrying the maximum penalty of death," Sujaya said.

At the trial session led by Judge Parulian Saragih, Nikolaos did not file a memorandum of objection or exception. Therefore, the trial will continue next Monday to hear witnesses.

Nikolaos was arrested by customs officers on Oct 3, 2011 at the arrival gate of Denpasar's Ngurah Rai airport shortly after he had disembarked from Qatar Airways  flight 0638 that flown the route   Istanbul - Doha - Singapore - Denpasar.(IGT)
