Singaraja (Antaranews Bali) - Buleleng District will showcase the distinctive arts of Muslim burdah from Pegayaman Village, Sukasada District, at the 40th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) to be held in Denpasar in June 2018.
"Burdah is a unique art of Muslim society in Buleleng. In addition to the game of tambourine, it also contains songs in Arabic mixed with Balinese songs. There is also a performance of martial arts," Head of the Arts Department of Buleleng District Culture Office Wayan Sujana stated here on Thursday.
He highlighted the importance of showcasing burdah art at the PKB. This Muslim art is similar to Balinese art, in general, in which artists wear Balinese costumes, such as Balinese headscarf or "udeng".
Burdah art has often been performed at cultural events in Buleleng, such as the Buleleng Festival.
"The art of culture has once been a powerful tool for fostering brotherhood in Buleleng," he stated.
By showcasing 25 types of arts, the District Government of Buleleng has allocated Rp1.5 billion to fund the art groups participating in the festival.
"We have already coached on all types of arts to be showcased. The preparations are 80 percent complete," he added. (WDY)
