Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR), Firman Soebagyo has urged the law enforcers to take stern action against skipper of MV Caledonia Sky cruise ship that damaged the coral reefs in Raja Ampat, West Papua.

One of the stern actions the law enforcers should take is to detain the skipper, according to the legislator of the DPR's commission IV in his written statement received here on Sunday.

"The rule of law must be enforced indiscriminately to anyone, including foreigners who violated the law in the country," the legislator disclosed.

Firman further said, destruction of coral reefs in the Raja Ampat, caused serious violation of law.

The serious violation of law which caused destruction of coral reefs in the shipping lanes of Raja Ampat by the Caledonian Sky ship, cannot be considered as a simple matter, he stated.

"The state apparatus' duties and obligation are to protect the environment and the country," Firman pointed out.

The MV Caledonia Sky cruise ship that damaged the coral reefs in Raja Ampat, West Papua, was owned and operated by a Swedish company, according to British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik after a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan here on Friday.

"A cruise ship MV Caledonia Sky is owned and operated by a Swedish company and not a British firm," the ambassador explained.

During the meeting, Ambassador Malik discussed and exchanged views with Minister Panjaitan on the destruction of coral reefs in Raja Ampat, West Papua. (WDY)
