Jakarta (Antara Bali) - British Council Director for Indonesia Paul Smith said that currently Indonesians are more and more aware of the importance of maritime sector, such as the aspects of economic, international relations and sociology.
"The government and the people give a recognition to the importance of maritime in all aspects, including economy, international relations and sociology," Paul Smith said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between London School of Public Relations (LSPR) and University of Coventry, England in the field of maritime communications curriculum development in Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, maritime communication covers a very wide field, including energy development, management and port development, agricultural development, and anthropology.
"Maritime communication is directed so that we can achieve sustainable development, entrepreneurship, security and fulfillment of human rights," Paul Smith noted.
He welcomes and appreciates LSPR as a leading higher educational institution in the country engaged in communications for its efforts in developing the maritime communications curriculum in collaboration with one of the leading universities in the UK.
Meanwhile, Director of LSPR Prita Kemal Gani stated that the development of maritime communications curriculum is in line with the government program contained in "Nawa Cita" to make Indonesia as the world's maritime axis.
"Nawa Cita" is the nine National Priority Agenda under the government of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
"Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world. Nawa Cita strengthens our prosperity and security in the world as a maritime nation," Prita said.
She explained the maritime communications curriculum developed by LSPR and the university located in the city of Coventry, England includes tourism, international law, business, shipping, ports, international relations and diplomacy.
The cooperation is in the forms of joint modules development, seminars and workshops, lectures exchanges, students exchange and joint research. (WDY)
