Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- President Joko Widodo attended the first "Tarawih" prayers of the fasting month of Ramadhan at Istiqlal Mosque here on Wednesday evening.
A number of cabinet ministers were also seen taking part in the special prayers at Jakarta's biggest mosque, including Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifudin and Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council Irman Gusman.
In black suit and white shirt, President Jokowi, as he is also known, was seated in the front row of the congregation.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs had officially declared that Ramadhan would commence on Thursday, June 18.
Following this decision, Muslims in the country began performing Tarawih prayers on Wednesday evening. (WDY)
