London (Antara Bali) - Indonesia is committed to ensuring equitable
quality education and lifelong learning in drafting global education
agenda in the lead-up to 2030, Culture and Primary and Secondary
Education Minister Anies Baswedan said.
He made the remarks before UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova at
the World Education Forum (WEF) 2015 attended by around 1,500
participants in Incheon, South Korea.
Indonesian permanent representative to UNESCO Ambassador T.A. Fauzi
Soelaiman said on Sunday the WEF was organized by UNESCO in cooperation
with other UN bodies including UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women, UNFPA, UNHCR, and
the World Bank.
The spirit, direction and focus of the global education agenda are
relevant to one of the Indonesian ideals contained in the Preamble of
the 1945 Constitution to intellectualize the nation, Bawesdan said in a
statement delivered to the forum.
The WEF is aimed at finding common position among UN member states
in drafting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the lead-up to
20130.
The forum was attended by 1,500 participants including 130
ministerial-level officials from 150 countries. Indonesia was one of the
21 countries appointed to deliver a national statement related to its
plan to work out national education agenda.
UNESCO invited the Indonesian minister of culture and primary and
secondary education to become a panelist at a joint parallel discussion
titled "Operationalizing Lifelong Learning" to figure out what Indonesia
has done and will do to realize a lifelong learning program.
In the course of the forum, Bawesdan also held bilateral talks with
representatives of the International Bureau of Education (IBE), the
World Bank, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and
Development (OECD) to discuss educational issues. (WDY)
