Increase Education Quality Through Synergy: VP Kalla

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The interactions between professors, both inside and outside the country, can increase the quality of education in Indonesia, Vice President Jusuf Kalla has said.

"There need to be a synergy from inside and outside the country, because knowledge calls for synergy, as the exchange of information and teaching strengths are required," he said, while offering directives at the Visiting World Class Professor in the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education building here, Monday.

The Vice President further said that the government fully supports the activity, as it is hoped to get to the bottom of (education) issues, as well as strengthening the science and technology sectors on Indonesian campuses.

The experiences possessed by Indonesian professors overseas needs to be combined with local understandings in order to achieve positive growth for the nation's sciences and knowledge, he noted.

The characteristics of a developed country, he continued, include a dynamic growth in technology and science.

The event, initiated by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, was attended by some 45 world class professors who came to Indonesia to transfer their knowledge at a number of national universities, in regards to the Indonesian Diaspora.

The academics came from different backgrounds, including engineering, pharmacy, politics, Islamic studies and urban planning.

They will deliver lectures at a number of universities in Indonesia, in order to increase the capacity and competency of national universities, thus increasing their competitiveness. (WDY)
