Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia with its various infrastructure development programs in the regions will attract foreign construction companies to invest in Indonesia, an official said.
"Indonesia will attract construction service companies because Indonesia is the largest construction market within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Indonesia contributes 67 percent to the ASEAN construction market," Hediyanto W Husaini, the acting director general of the Ministry of Public Works, said here on Monday.
He said that the Indonesian government is now active in developing the country's infrastructure. The construction sector is known to contribute 10 percent to the country's gross domestic product (PDB).
For this purpose, improvement of construction's quality is important not only for the government but also for facing global competition, particularly the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
"The growth of the construction service in Jakarta is placed on the top list in Asia. The profit potentials that could be obtained from construction service activities in Indonesia are the biggest in ASEAN," he said.
Husaini also questioned whether Indonesia would be able to maintain its construction service market at home. He said that the average growth of human resources in Indonesia is only about six percent which are not balanced with the construction service growth at about 21 percent. (WDY)
