(Antara Bali)- Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika has expressed his optimism
that the 85th General Assembly of the International Police (Interpol)
will be good for promotion of Bali tourism.
"It will have a major impact and is very good for Bali tourism. Just
imagine, some 2,000 delegates from 190 countries will be present,"
Pastika said when hosting a dinner for Interpol officials here, Saturday
evening.
President of Interpol Mireille Ballestrazzi of France expressed his
gratitude to the Bali Governor and the Indonesian Police for the
hospitality.
He said the General Assembly will discuss issues on terrorism, and
transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, cyber crimes, and illegal
fishing activities.
He hoped that the meeting would yield policies that could contribute to international security and world peace.
Earlier, Governor Pastika had expressed hope that the assembly will help promote the island`s tourist resorts widely.
He remarked that Bali is lucky to host the Interpol General
Assembly, which will be held for the first time in Indonesia. Therefore,
he called on the Balinese to show their hospitality and help maintain
security.
The general assembly will take place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung District, on November 7-10, 2016.
The annual Interpol General Assembly is believed to be the
second-largest international gathering, after the annual UN General
Assembly in New York. (WDY)
