Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya is scheduled to attend the First World Conference on Tourism for Development in Beijing, China, on May 19-20, 2016, according to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism released on Wednesday.
The statement revealed that Minister Yahya will deliver a speech at the conference and fulfill his promise made to the United Nations World Tourism (UN-WTO) Secretary General Thaleb Rival.
When Arief had met Thaleb at the "Wonderful Indonesia" pavilion in Berlin, Germany, some time ago, he had promised to attend the World Tourism Conference in Beijing, organized by China National Tourism Administration and the UN-WTO.
During the meeting in Berlin, the UN-WTO secretary general urged the Indonesian tourism minister to deliver a speech at the World Tourism Conference in Beijing.
Minister Yahya affirmed that the forum would be a strategic platform to shed light on the latest information on the development of sustainable tourism and the tourism sector as a lever of sustainable economic growth.
Arief said he will give a speech on tourism for poverty reduction.
The conference is also strategic as it will be attended by G-20 leaders engaged in the field of tourism.
Tourism ministers scheduled to attend the conference in Beijing are from countries, including Bulgaria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Cambodia, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Malta, South Africa, Lithuania, Egypt, Australia, England, Germany, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and the host, China.
