360,000 Indonesians Visited Europe In 2015: Ambassador

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - As many as 360,000 Indonesians visited various European countries in 2015, European Union's ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Vincent Guerend, said here on Saturday.

"Last year, around 360,000 Indonesians had visited EU countries and we believe the number would increase in the next few years," he said at Balai Kartini, the venue of the EU tourism exhibition.

Although no target has been set, he was optimistic there would be an increase in the number of tourists from Indonesia to the EU countries.

"We have noticed that more and more Indonesians now like traveling and many of them have been choosing Europe as their destination," he said.

He said ambassadors from a number of European countries in Indonesia have also been intensifying their efforts to promote tourist destinations in their countries, including those that are not yet familiar with the international communities.

"Moreover, we are also holding an exhibition in which we are also introducing various cultures and foods from Europe. This, I think, will offer new attractions for people to choose Europe as their holiday destination," he said.

Twenty-two members of the EU and three other European countries took part in a tourism exhibition here on April 9-10 that introduced a number of attractive tourist destinations in the region.

Besides receiving information about attractive tourism packages with special price offers, visitors to the exhibition also had an opportunity to taste special foods and enjoy cultural performances from a number of countries participating in the event. (WDY)
