Soekarno-Hatta Airport Main Gateway For Drug Smuggling

Cirebon (Antara) - Soekarno Hatta Airport in Banten province is the main gateway to smuggle drugs to Indonesia, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said.

"Most of them were smuggled through Soekarno Hatta Airport," he said here Wednesday.

Since early this year, six attempts of smuggling drugs through the airport have been foiled, he said.

The other areas which are prone to drug smuggling are Batam, Tanjung Balai Karimun and Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), and Bandung (West Java).

Some of the drugs were sent by packages via the Pasar Baru post office in Jakarta.

Most of drug couriers arrested at the airport concealed the drugs inside their clothes, he said.

The drugs had been smuggled into Indonesia mostly from Malaysia, he said.

"The rest came from Taiwan, Singapore, Iran and Nigeria," he added. (WDY)
