Hundreds Of Foreign Tourists Visited Sorong Ecotourism Forest

Sorong, W Papua (Antara Bali) - More than a hundred foreign tourists from different countries have visited the Malagufuk ecotourism forest in Sorong, West Papua, since January 2016, according to a tourist guide.

"Hundreds of foreign tourists have visited the ecotourism forest, and many more of them will follow as they keen to hear the song of the bird of paradise, the iconic bird in the land of Papua," Malagufuk tourist guide Kostan Magablo remarked here on Wednesday.

According to Magablo, the Malagufuk ecotourism forest was also visited by several foreign tourists from various countries last year.

Magablo pointed out that the ecotourism forest is scenic and home to various diverse types of birds, flora, and fauna, but unfortunately, it is not widely popular due to lack of promotion.

Further, he added that the local tribal community continued to preserve the forest and protect it against illegal logging activities as tourist arrivals to the forest generate additional income for them.

Magablo noted that due to the ecotourism forest, the Malagufuk village has now developed well, and last year, a clean water supply facility was constructed as part of the aid provided by one of the Dutch state tourism agencies. (WDY)
