Kalla, Hamidi Discuss Bilateral Relations

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi discussed a wide range of bilateral issues at a meeting here on Friday.

"We discussed how to further enhance Indonesia-Malaysia relations in economic and social fields. We also discussed regional security," Kalla informed the press following the meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Friday.

This is the first visit of Hamidi to Indonesia after he assumed the post of deputy prime minister.

Commenting on the ongoing political turmoil in Malaysia, Kalla noted that any political problem faced by a country is its internal matter.

According to its foreign policy, Indonesia does not intervene in the internal affairs of other countries, including Malaysia, he pointed out.

"But, as a friendly country, Indonesia views it as an internal affair of Malaysia. We are ready to lend ideas or support any time, if requested," he emphasized.

Despite the political turmoil, he expressed hope that the Malaysian people would stay united.

"After all, I believe that Malaysians will be able to solve their political and economic problems as they did earlier," he remarked.

During his visit to Indonesia, the Malaysian deputy prime minister met Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan earlier in the day.

Both Kalla and Hamidi performed Friday prayers at Baturrahman Mosque in the premises of the Vice Presidential Palace.(WDY)
