Tropical Wheat To Symbolize Indonesia, Slovakia Cooperation

Padang, W Sumatra (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's ambassador to Slovakia, Djumantoro Purbo, said the development of tropical wheat by several universities in Indonesia has become a symbol of cooperation between Indonesia and Slovakia.

"The relationship between Indonesia and Slovakia is not firmly established, but thanks to the wheat research carried out at Andalas University (Padang, West Sumatra), the cooperation between the two countries is growing," the ambassador said on Wednesday.

According to him, the cooperation between Indonesia and Slovakia had become more focused on the development of tropical agriculture, especially wheat.

The Slovakian representative has visited Indonesia several times to review the progress of wheat agriculture, which is now one of the national strategic commodities.

"The Andalas University's program to develop wheat is a starting point for increasing cooperation between the two countries," he added.

During a short period of time, hundreds of Slovakian students have come to Indonesia to study agricultural science.

In addition, cooperation in other sectors, such as raw rubber exports and the development of agricultural technology has also increased.

"Currently, the relationship between Indonesia and Slovakia is only in the form of research. But this relationship will lead to other mutually beneficial collaborations," he said. (WDY)
