President Pledges Rp3 Trillion For North Maluku Infrastructure Development

Ternate, North Maluku (Antara Bali) - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has pledged Rp3 trillion for developing infrastructure in the eastern Indonesian province of North Maluku.

"North Maluku needs around Rp3 trillion for the construction of roads and port infrastructure, among others," President Jokowi stated while announcing the development of Sofifi as the capital of North Maluku here on Friday.

The president also vowed to build a large port in Ternate.

"The transportation minister has not informed me about the amount of budget needed to build the port, but let me announce it directly to the public," Jokowi remarked.

President Jokowi also assured that the large-scale development of infrastructure in North Maluku will commence as soon as possible.

"God willing, it will start this year. The infrastructure development will start in the eastern part of Indonesia," he noted.

Further, the head of state affirmed that in order to develop the city of Sofifi, as the center of North Maluku provincial administration, the character and identity of the city should be promoted. (WDY)
