Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Former deputy minister of justice and human rights Denny Indrayana said he was being criminalized by police who named him a suspect in a corruption case in the implementation of electronic system of passport cost payment known as Payment Gateway in 2014.
"He believed he is a victim of criminalization," Denny's lawyer Defrizal said here on Wednesday.
Police have named Denny, a professor at the state Gajah Mada University of Yogyakarta, a suspect after investigating him earlier. Defrizal said Denny is ready to face the charges against him.
Police have sent a letter summoning Denny for investigations as a suspect on next Friday. "Mr Denny received the latter last night, but I don't know whether he would honor the summon or not . We have yet to discuss that matter," Defrizal said.
Denny is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment with a fine of Rp1 billion if found guilty.
Earlier police said they already had seven indications of incriminating evidence in the payment gateway project that implicated Denny when he was active deputy minister. Police chief spokesman Brig.Gen. Anton Charliyan said a report from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) said there as a loss of Rp32 billion in state fund in the procurement of the equipment for the payment gateway project. (WDY)
