Berlin (Antara Bali) - Hamburg captain Rafael van der Vaart said he would take a pay cut from his contract worth 3.5 million euros per year, which will expire in June, in order to stay at the club.
"Everyone knows that Hamburg is my club and I am open to anything," said the 31-year-old told German magazine Sport Bild.
"(Negotiations) certainly will not fall on the question of money."
Dutch midfielder, has made more than 100 appearances for the national team, a period of employment both in the German club.
He left the club in 2008 to strengthen Real Madrid, then moved to Tottenham Hotspur before returning in 2012.
Hamburg currently inhabit ranked 15th, one position above the relegation zone, ahead of Saturday's game ranked sixth in team headquarters Augsburg.
But Van der Vaart give praise to coach Joe Zinnbauer, who took office in September after Mirko Slomka was sacked.
"He clearly develop the team, in defense and in our counter-attack game, but we should not be complacent and we need to give more in the headquarters of Augsburg," said Van der Vaart. (MFD)
