The Gundam Global Challenge Calling for Ideas to Make a Full-Scale Gundam Move

The full-scale Gundam, currently located in Odaiba, Tokyo.

Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary Project

Tokyo (Antara Bali) - To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam, the General Incorporated Association Gundam Global Challenge is looking for ideas from the general public for how to make a full-scale, 18 meters tall Gundam move. The application deadline is February 27, 2015. The winning ideas will be revealed at a public showing in 2019 with a moving 18 meters tall full-scale Gundam.

The Challenge
The project has two categories;
• The "Real Entertainment Category" for ideas on actually moving the 18m tall Gundam, and
• The "Virtual Entertainment Category" for visual effects ideas to reproduce movements in virtual reality

This massive project, led by the Association based in Japan, will be calling for submissions from across the world. To open the competition to even more entries, submissions will also be accepted for individual technologies, materials, systems, etc. The deadline for submissions is February 27, 2015.

Judges on the Gundam Global Challenge Leaders Board include Mr. Yoshiyuki Tomino, Director of "Mobile Suit Gundam", and Mr. Shuji Hashimoto, Vice President and professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Waseda University. The judges will announce their results in August 2015.

Applicants whose entries are selected, and who sign master agreements, will receive both prize money and subsidies. As Gundam Global Challenge members, they will participate and assist with basic plan proposal, creation, and implementation of the project.

Open Innovation – Bringing Global Knowledge Together
After the winning entries are announced, an open platform will be established to gather additional ideas in order to further refine the winning entries. The submitted additional ideas will be screened and collected, and a final "Basic Plan" will be announced in fall 2016 (see official project site for application details).

The Gundam Global Challenge project is seeking a wide range of entries in a world-spanning endeavor — already over half of the entries submitted have come from overseas. The Association is excited to see you use passion and cutting edge technologies to rise to this tremendous challenge.
