President Inaugurates KPU Leadership Meeting

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated the General Elections Commission's (KPU's) leadership meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday to evaluate and obtain a report on the process of general elections.

The meeting was attended by all provincial KPU chairmen, deputy chairmen, and secretaries from across the country.

During his opening address, President Yudhoyono extended his gratitude to all the KPU leaders and members who had labored for the success of the general elections and presidential election.

The president was also optimistic that in the upcoming years, holding the elections will become easier, cheaper, faster, and more efficient.

"In the hands of professional, independent, and credible leaders and members of the KPU and the General Elections Monitoring Body (Bawaslu), the general elections and presidential election could run smoothly and successfully," Yudhoyono remarked.

In the meantime, KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Malik stated that the evaluation meeting was held in a bid to improve the quality of general elections.

"This meeting is important and strategic for evaluating the process of elections and to report every stage of the election," Malik added. (WDY)
