President Hopes Papua Remains Peaceful, Prosperous

Waisai, West Papua (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed the hope that the land of Papua will remain peaceful and prosperous like other areas in Indonesia.

"Go ahead with the positive development in Papua and West Papua. The next government is also expected to do so to make these two eastern-most provinces even better," Yudhoyono said in his opening address at the peak event of Sail Raja Ampat 2014.

He said Papua should be developed with a heart, sincerity, and affection because he was convinced that the next government would be able to accelerate the development in these two provinces, the president noted.

Therefore, he called on all public elements to optimize all the potential such as energy, tourism, and maritime life in Papua.

"Sail Raja Ampat is intended to improve tourism and maritime sectors in Papua and West Papua, and if all the potential here is optimized, I believe in the next 5, 10, and 15 years Papua and West Papua will be much better," he noted.

More such events should be carried out in Papua for the welfare of the local community, the Head of State noted.

Sail Raja Ampat 2014 is the sixth of its kind after Sail Bunaken 2009, Sail Banda 2010, Sail Wakatobi-Belitung 2011, Sail Morotai 2012 and Sail Komodo 2013. (WDY)
