Australian Archaeologists Interested in Searching Cave

Palembang (Antara Bali) - Some Australian archaeologists were reported to be interested in searching Harimau Cave recently discovered in the location of natural tourism object of Putri Cave in Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra.

"They visited Baturaja a few months ago, and planned to go back to do the research with more personnel and equipments," Head of Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Tourism Office Aufa Sarkomi said here on Monday.

With the finding of prehistoric human skeletons of neo Mongoloid who lived 3,000 years ago, the Harimau Cave has successfully attracted the archaeologists to do the research in the location.

Around 66 prehistoric human skeletons were found in the location and it is estimated there will be more skeletons still unfound there.

Besides the human skeleton, other objects of historical heritage which has to do with axes, ceramics, and grave were also found in Harimau Cave.

It is for that purpose, the OKU administrative office took the control of Harimau Cave and trusted the national archaeologist to conduct further research and excavation in the location.

Furthermore, the national archaeologists have conducted a series excavation in two months.  They also plan to do the digging in a bit to discover more relics in the cave.

Harimau Cave is also a place of prehistoric human being and mass graves found in Putri Cave in Baturaja, he said.

The historical findings will enrich tourism attraction in OKU which may increase the number of tourists visiting South Sumatra. (*/T007)
