ProFauna Saves Two Rare Monkeys

Malang, East Java (Antara Bali) - ProFauna Indonesia has managed to save two rare monkeys (macaca fascicularis) from poaching  in the forest near Batu City of Malang, East Java.

"Actually Profauna wants to send back the monkeys to their habitat, but there are constraints as we do not know the monkey's group while the poaching activities is still getting out of hand," said ProFauna Indonesia Chairman Rosek Nursahid here on Tuesday.

According to him, the two monkeys are protected under the law and currently being treated by ProFauna's Wildlife Rescue Center (PWRC). He said that the monkeys were lost as chased by the hunters.

ProFauna investigation noted that the monkeys live in the forest which located at 5 kilometers from PWRC in Petungsewu Village, Dau Sub-district.

The PWRC office also adjacent with forest area which enters territory of Junrejo Sub-district of Batu City.

The hunters that carrying dogs which came to the forest were interrupted the monkeys habitat and disbanded as the two monkeys lost to PWRC.

According to him, the hunter's activities which known as "gladak" will hunt any species of wildlife, such as primates, porcupines, mongoose, wildcats and other animals in the forest. (*/DWA)
