New York (AFP / Antara Bali) - US pharmaceutical distributor AmerisourceBergen, Monday, announced plans to acquire companies engaged in animal health, WMI Veterinary Supply, at a cost of 2.5 billion US dollars (about Rp31,4 trillion).

AmerisourceBergen said that the deal will enable it to expand its services to the field of animal health. WMI sell pet food, veterinary drugs, vaccines and other items.

"Animal health is a growing market in the US and internationally, and is an extension of the pharmaceutical distribution business and our services," said chief executive Steven Collis AmericsourceBergen.

"Utilizing AmerisourceBergen knowledge about the manufacturer and service provider of services, global reach and our partnership philosophy, combined with WMI expertise in veterinary and agricultural markets, we will jointly launch a generation of animal health products and services of superior next together."

MWI rake in the sales of US $ 3 billion (around Rp 37.7 trillion) last year, while AmerisourceBergen gain from the sale amounted to 120 billion US dollars (around Rp1.51 quadrillion) and has about 14,000 employees.

AmerisourceBergen said it would buy the MWI at 190 US dollars (about Rp2,39 million) per share. (MFD)
