Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia has been elected as the chair of the Southeast Asian Parliamentarians Against Corruption (SEAPAC) until 2015, an Indonesian legislator said.
The Indonesian delegation to the Fifth Conference of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) proposed Pramono Anung Wibowo as the SEAPAC chairman, Eva Kusuma Sundari, a member of the Indonesian Parliament, said in a statement to ANTARA, on Saturday.
The Fifth Conference of GOPAC was held in Manila, the Philippines, from January 30 until February 2, 2013. Having more than 900 members from 90 countries including Indonesia, GOPAC is based in Canada.
A SEAPAC session was organized on the sidelines of the GOPAC conference in Manila and attended by delegations from SEAPAC member countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor Leste.
Pramono, who is currently the head of GOPAC Indonesia, succeeded Filipino Senator Edgardo J. Angara as the SEAPAC chairman, Sundari said.
Senator Angara in the conference was appointed as the GOPAC chairman to replace Nasel Al Sane from Kuwait.
Deputy House Speaker of Thailand Surachai Liengboonlertchan was named as the vice chairman of SEAPAC in the meeting, according to Sundari of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). (*/DWA/T007)
