Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The government has raised excise on tobacco products by an average of 8.5 percent effective December 25, 2012, according to the Finance Ministry.
The 2013 excise policy remains the same as this year, the head of the ministry's communication and information service bureau, Yudhi Pramadi said here on Thursday.
On average the excise hike reaches 8.5 percent. The tobacco excise is raised at a moderate range of Rp5 to Rp20 per cigarette, he said.
He said excise on imported tobacco products is the same as the highest excise for each type and class of locally-produced tobacco.
The new tobacco excise was laid down in the finance minister's regulation No. 79/PMK.011/2012 on excise on tobacco products dated November 12, 2012, he said.
The excise policy was made to achieve the target of tobacco excise receipts of Rp88.02 trillion set in the 2013 state budget, he said. (*/dwa/T007)
