Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Bali provincial government aims to create 18 thousand jobs for unemployed people this year, a local manpower official said.
The number of unemployed people in Bali is still high, reaching 48 thousand or 2.11 percent of its labor force, Head of the Bali Provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office I Wayan Wiratha said here on Saturday.
The target is 3 thousand higher than that of last year, he said.
"Last year we created jobs for nearly 17 thousand jobless people. They were employed at a number of domestic and foreign companies," he said after opening the second phase of Bali Job Fair.
As Bali is a small island, serious efforts must be made to create jobs for unemployed people in the province whose number reaches nearly 48 thousand, he said.
"Therefore, we will always make an effort to reduce the number of unemployed people by, among other things, organizing such job fair. This time 50 companies are taking part in the event," he said.
By holding such event, the unemployment problem can be resolved soon, he said.
"On average the job seekers taking part in the job fair hold at least senior high school diplomas, meaning that our labor force has good intellect," he said.
To meet qualifications of workers required in the job market, the office has organized a number of on-the-job training.
"This year we have organized 18 vocational trainings to meet demand from the job market," he said.(*/T007)
