Balikpapan (Antara Bali) - The East Kalimantan regional administration offers job for migrants from Java as seaweed farmers in the province.
Jobs are available in the regency of Kutai Timur to grow seaweed for migrant families from East, Central and West Java including victims of Yogyakarta earthquake, head of the regional maritime and fishery service Iwan Mulyana said.
Kutai Timur is a potential area to grow sea weed, but the district area is short of manpower to develop the potential, Iwan said here on Thursday.
With hundreds of kilometers of coastline, Kutai Timur produces only around 50,000 tons of sea weed per year, he said.
Sea weed is grown in the sub-districts of Teluk Pandan, Sangatta Selatan, Bengalon, Kaliorang, and Sangkulirang in the regency. (*/M038)
