Fuel Smuggling Occurs On Country Borderline

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Gasoline fuel oil smuggling is reported to be frequently occurring on the border of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Timor Leste.

Military Area Commander IX / Udayana Maj. Gen. Leonard said here Thursday that the smuggling often happens as traditional smuggling and is largely disorganized.

"We often catch traditional smugglers and they are not organized on the borders. Most of the smuggled goods are fuels such as kerosene, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Because these commodities are much more expensive in Timor Leste, where the prices reach three to four times," he said.

Leonard noted that the trigger for smuggling cases is based on the local economic development problem in East Nusa Tenggara.

"The government must pay attention to society's welfare in economics, education, and health. The smuggling attempt would stop if the area increase its welfare," Leonard said.(IGT)
