Istanbul, Turkey (Antara Bali) - Jordan and Palestine have lauded
Indonesia`s diplomatic struggle in the Palestinian issue, Foreign
Minister Retno Marsudi stated.
"The Jordanian and Palestinian foreign ministers highly praise
Indonesia`s diplomatic struggle in the Palestinian issue," the minister
noted here on Tuesday evening, (Dec 12).
Marsudi pointed out that currently, not many countries have been
able to accomplish what Indonesia has done for handling the Palestinian
issue, including garnering support from non-Islamic Cooperation
Organization (OIC) countries, so they do not follow the step taken by
the US president who has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"I have communicated with several foreign ministers, including those from countries in the European Union (EU)," she noted.
Marsudi stated earlier that she will depart for Brussels and hold MN
meetings with the EU foreign ministers and individual talks with the EU
members.
"I also communicate with our permanent representatives at the UN and
our ambassador in New York. They have lobbied with friends who are
seated in the UN Security Council and the Palestinian Committee in which
Indonesia is a member," she revealed.
Minister Marsudi has also intensively communicated with the UN`s
under-secretary-general affairs and wrote to the UN secretary general to
draw attention to the Palestinian issue.
"Indonesia`s diplomatic struggle for Palestine has been through
various roads since before the US president announced his decision to
move the embassy in Jerusalem up until now," she remarked.
The minister said the Palestinian issue had led to the establishment
of the OIC, so there is no reason for the member states to not unite on
this matter.
"I think Palestine will be the unifying force for OIC countries," she emphasized.
The stance and steps to be taken by the OIC, through the
Extraordinary Summit in Istanbul, will be delivered after the event is
completed.
"I cannot say now, as negotiations are still underway. Hence, I
cannot convey something that has not been negotiated and approved by the
OIC member countries," she said, adding that at the time, the results
have been approved, and she will deliver it.
"If God willing, tomorrow when the outcome is already adopted, I will speak about the future steps," Marsudi noted. (WDY)
