Pariaman, W Sumatra (Antara Bali) - Imam Nahrawi, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister, has urged the Indonesian people to fully support and encourage Indonesia's under-19 national soccer team in the 2018 Asia Cup final round.
"Indonesia will host the 2018 Asia Cup, so it needs more support from the people, particularly the soccer fans in the country," he said here, Friday, after giving a public lecture at one of the private universities.
He stated that all parties should appreciate Indonesia's under-19 national soccer team, better known as the Garuda Muda, despite its several defeats in the 2018 Asian Cup qualifying matches in South Korea recently.
"We must encourage the team players in order to achieve the best results in the 2018 Asia Cup final round," the minister asserted.
Indonesia will host the Asia Cup final round of the under-19 soccer teams, which will be held from October 18 to November 4, 2018, according to a statement issued by the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI).
Meanwhile, the Garuda Muda team surrendered 0-4 against South Korea's squad in the Group F of the Asian Cup Qualification U-19, 2018, which was held in Paju Public stadium, South Korea, Saturday (Nov 4).
Regardless of the outcome in qualifying, Indonesia's chance to compete in the finals of the Asian Cup U-19 in 2018 will not be affected, as Indonesia is the host of the championship. (WDY)
