189 Countries To Participate In IMF-World Bank Meeting In Bali

Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - As many as 189 countries are scheduled to participate in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank annual meeting in Nusa Dua on the Indonesian island resort of Bali in October 2018.

Chairman of the Task Force of Bank Indonesia for the IMF-World Bank 2018 meeting Peter Jacobs stated here on Tuesday that the event will be attended by more than 13 thousand participants, including official country delegations, staff members of national and international institutions, private and governmental institutions, academics, as well as youth organizations.

The IMF-World Bank 2018 meeting is expected to be one of the greatest international events to be organized in Indonesia, with around 600 meetings to be held on the sidelines.

According to Jacobs, the themes to be discussed at the annual meeting are still tentative, taking into account the latest situation and developments.

However, the discussion will largely center around the risks of global economic development, such as fiscal and financial policy, economic growth in developing countries, employment, gender equality, as well as climate change.

Jacobs explained that Bali was selected to host the event, as large international meetings had been held several times on the island of gods, with the support of sufficient infrastructure.

"They (the representatives of IMF and World Bank) have come to Bali to survey the site, and they were highly impressed," Jacobs noted.

Earlier last year, Managing Director of IMF Christine Lagarde had expressed her gratitude to the Indonesian people and government for hosting the 2018 annual meeting.

Lagarde stated that the IMF-World Bank 2018 annual meeting will be a huge opportunity to showcase Indonesia's impressive economic and social achievements, as well as the culture, people, beauty, and vitality of the country.

It will be the first time for Indonesia to host the annual meetings of the two influential financial and development organizations. (WDY)
