Serang, Banten (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pinned 'He for She' commitment badges as part of a campaign to involve men to stand in solidarity with women, initiated by the United Nations (UN) for Women.
The pinning of the badge ceremony was held as part of the 88th Mother's Day commemorations in the Banten Government's Great Mosque grounds in Seran, Banten, today.
"Everyone grew up in the hands of their mothers and it underlines the significant role women play to ensure Indonesia reaches its full potential," said Jokowi in his opening speech.
The aim of the 'He for She' movement is to involve men in promoting awareness about the importance of gender equality.
The President pinned the 'He for She' commitment badges on representatives of Ministers, Governors and Mayors as well as Sub-District Heads.
Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil were among those who received the badges.
The event concluded with a series of art performances, all signifying the role women play in communities.
"Happy Mother's Day to all mothers in Indonesia," said the President. (WDY)
