Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia and Japan have agreed to establish the Indonesia-Japan Maritime Forum (IJMF) to discuss maritime cooperation between the two countries.
The Memorandum of Cooperation to establish the IJMF was jointly signed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida in Japan on Wednesday.
Minister Luhut led the Indonesian delegation to Japan from Dec 20 to 21 to establish the IJMF and to discuss cooperation over infrastructure and maritime security.
Luhut also discussed strategic cooperation in the Sabang, Natuna, Morotai, and Maluku regions, under Japan's authority.
The maritime affairs minister also met with the leaders of numerous Japanese companies: the Ports and Harbors Association of Japan, Sumitomo Corp, Taisei Corp, Chiyoda Corp, Teijin Limited, Marubeni Corp, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, and Inpex Corporation.
IJMF is expected to be an important forum for Indonesia and Japan not only in building solid cooperation between the two countries in various maritime areas but also in contributing significantly to efforts to create and maintain stability, economic growth, peace, and security. (WDY)
