Semarang (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Textile Association (API)of Semarang said garment making companies in Central Java need thousands of skilled workers.
Chairman of the Semarang branch of API Agung Wahono said workers are needed by new factories and relocated factories from other areas.
So far in 2015, there have been two new companies operating in Central Java each would need 4,000-5,000 workers, Agung said here on Monday.
"New companies alone need around 10,000 workers , not to mention a number of garment makers relocated to the province from other areas," he said, adding they would need to recruit workers to replace those that would not agree to move from their original places.
He said until now garment industry is not significantly affected by the global economic turbulence.
Therefore, there was no dismissal of workers in the garment making industry, he said, adding on the contrary more workers are needed.
"This year from January to September the number of workers in the textile industry grow 5 percent in the province," he said.
Garment makers are hardly affected by the global crisis as buyers abroad supply the basic materials needed by the factories in the country, he said.
The garment makers in the country need only to recruit workers for the process of production, he added. (WDY)
