Jayapura, Papua (Antara Bali) - The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) launched in Jayapura, Papua on Monday the Renewable Energy Document 2050 which contains a target to reduce emissions up to 26 percent.
Director of WWF for Sahul Papua and West Papua Regions Benja Victor Mambay said the organization wants to introduce a new vision of renewable energy, hoping in 2050 Indonesia has 100 percent use renewable energy.
"This is a vision that is relevant to what the government and the provincial administration are fighting for in reducing emissions," he said.
Mambay explained so far the provincial government has provided technical personnel that help the community to apply renewable energy technologies.
"WWF is also working with the Jayapura district and city administrations in installing a solar panel center as a renewable energy research center," he said.
The installation of solar panels is done in cooperation with the Jayapura city administration and the Faculty of Engineering of University of Cendrawasih, Jayapura.
He added together with third parties as well as with the University of Cendrawasih and the University of Musamus Merauke, WWF has conducted renewable energy studies in five areas that represent different types of ecosystems.
The five regions are Merauke and Boven Digoel in the South region of Papua, Jayapura district in the northern region, Jayawijaya in the Central Mountains and the Yapen Islands. (WDY)
