"Under the law on civil servants and regional autonomy, no civil servants are allowed to get involved in political activities or serve as a political tool," he said after a hearing with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Monday.
In fact, active civil servants who wish to run for the posts of regional heads must resign from their positions at government agencies first, he added.
"So civil servants who wish to hold political posts must resign under the law," he stated.
Chrisnandi further noted that they are banned from joining practical politics, including attending campaigns, supporting certain candidates and taking sides with certain nominees in activities they hold, under the name of agencies and the state.
To prevent this from happening, a politician of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) affirmed that he will soon issue a circular to all central and regional agencies.
Any civil servants found involved in practical politics will receive a written warning, which will be the lightest form of sanction, he cautioned.
If they receive a written warning for the second time, their promotion will be suspended.
While another form of sanction will be tour of duty, the severest sanctions, which will include dismissal as civil servants, will be imposed on those who ignore the written warnings to not get involved in practical politics.(WDY)
