Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has ordered all state port operators PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) I-IV to use rupiah in all port transactions.

Sea Transport Director General Bobby R Mamahit said all four state port operators are required to comply with the instruction.

"I am told to use rupiah to reduce the need for US dollar in transactions," Bobby said here on Monday.

He said rupiah is to be used not only in sea transport, but also in land, air transport including in railway transport.

He acknowledged that control is not easy to enforce the order at port such as control over transactions via bank,"I hope the instruction is effective."

He said violation by Pelindo of the instruction would face sanction from Bank Indonesia in line with the Law No. 7 of 2011 on currencies. "The one to impose the sanction is Bank Indonesia as it is about the use currency," he said. (WDY)
