Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Megan Young from the Philippines was chosen Miss World 2013 at the pageant's final round in Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on Saturday evening, winning out over 129 other contestants.
"Thank you all. I promise I will be the best," she said after being crowned as the world's beauty queen.
Wearing a light red gown, Megan walked around the stage, waving at the audience as a beauty queen after coronation.
The 23-year old stole the juries' attention when she answered their questions about her reason for participating in the contest.
"Being a Miss World will not only help others, but also give them understanding," she said, drawing applause from her supporters crowding the hall.
In her press statement, Megan, who was born in the United States, said she would carry out social missions in various countries during her one year as Miss World.
"I wish to see what is outside there. I will do whatever I can to help others," she said.
The runner-up in the contest was Marine Lorphelin from France, while third place was taken by Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter from Ghana.
Indonesia's contestant, Vania Larissa, was able to enter the final ten, but failed to reach the final five. (DWA)
