Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's benchmark stock index rose in the opening trade on Monday with market players selling fewer shares.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange opened 0.17 percent higher at 4,176.75 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.26 percent to 691.02 points.

Technical factor pushed up the index as shares had been oversold,chief researcher of Trust Securities, Reza Priyambada said here on Monday.

Regional market such as Hang Seng recorded a 0.71 percent  increase in index  to  22,018.32 points with Nikkei-225 index down 0.05 percent to 13,654.91 points  and that of Straits Times up 0.35 percent to 3,100.23 points
 
Meanwhile the national currency rupiah extended losses in value against the US dollar opening  at the level of 10,980 from 10.975 per dollar earlier. (*/DWA)
