Batam (Antara Bali) - Former Indonesian president BJ Habibie has announced his commitment to build a pioneer aviation industry at the Hang Nadim international airport complex in Batam, an official said.
"Several days ago, Habibie expressed his commitment to building a pioneer aviation industry in Batam. He said that he would only pioneer for at least three years, and would hand it over to the nation's finest sons and daughters," said the Director of BP Batam's (Batam Business Authority) one stop service and public relations Dwi Djoko Wiwoho here Tuesday.
Habibie's intention was conveyed to the agency's chief Mustafa Widjaja and a number of BP Batam officials in Jakarta during the signing of the allocation of 62 hectares out of 100 hectares of land for the development of offices, hangars, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) service by PT Indonesia Aero Maintenance (IAM) where Habibie is the Chairman of its Board of Commissioners.
"Habibie said that he is just preparing the company, and expected that the government will take the aviation company someday," he said. (*/M038)
